The premises of the shopping center Optima in Košice traditionally belonged to the last September Friday – September 28, 2018. The 12th year of the prestigious science festival in Slovakia – the European Researchers’ Night 2018 was held here. The motto of this year’s festival was “Researchers in Us”. The rich program presented in almost eighty scientific stands and 11th popularizing lectures this year enjoyed great interest. Scientists were trying to persuade the general public that science could also be fun.
In the scientific stand entitled How the Egg Was Going to Wandering, scientists and PhD students of the Institute of Animal Physiology CBs of the Slovak Academy of Sciences explained to those interested the life and reproduction cycle of the mouse, i. embryo development from fertilized egg to nesting in the uterus. Through the stereomicroscope, they could see fixed mouse embryos at different stages of development and familiarize themselves with common techniques used in the laboratory. They also learned how ovulatory resp. pregnancy test, in which period it is appropriate to do it and when it does not make sense.
