Microbial factories for the innovative and sustainable production of natural flavourings
Axxence Slovakia s.r.o., in collaboration with its partner, the Centre of Biosciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (a public research institution), is implementing a project funded under call PSK-MH-011-2024-DV-EFRR (Slovakia Programme – SK – EFRR/KF/FST/ESF+). The project is being carried out in the Bratislava Region.
- Project title: Microbial factories for the innovative and sustainable production of natural aromatic compounds
- Project code: NFP401101C546
- Project implementation period: 1.9.2026 – 31.8.2029
Project Aim
The aim of the project is to develop a biotechnological platform capable of producing aromatic compounds, in particular lactones, aldehydes and jasmonate derivatives, which are used in the food, cosmetics and perfume industries. The proposed solution represents a sustainable alternative to traditional extraction and chemical methods for producing natural aromatic substances, which can be environmentally and economically demanding.
Implementation and Expected Results
The project is being carried out through two industrial research activities at the premises of Axxence Slovakia s.r.o. and at the Institute of Animal Biochemistry and Genetics of the Centre of Biosciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. The project will result in a validated, scalable and patent-independent platform for the production of natural flavourings, as well as related know-how, protocols, genetic tools and experimental data that can be utilised in further biotechnological applications. The project contributes to meeting the objectives of the EU Green Deal, supports the circular bioeconomy and strengthens Slovakia’s position in the field of biotechnology research and sustainable production.
Project Funding
The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Operational Programme ‘Program Slovensko 2021–2027’.
