From May 3rd to May 5th, 2023, the FENS Regional Meeting 2023 (FRM 2023) took place at the Congress Center of Hotel Salgados Palace in Algarve, Portugal. The aim of this symposium was to bring together researchers from around the world and provide the latest insights from various areas of neuroscience.
Our institute had active participation from our colleagues who presented their research in the form of posters. RNDr. Katarína Ondáčová, PhD., showcased a poster titled “Animal model of depression – changes in calcium handling in offspring hippocampi“, while doctoral candidate Ing. Alžbeta Idunková presented a poster on “Impact of maternal depression and its treatment by mirtazapine on the hippocampal excitability in offspring“.
Interesting lectures covered topics such as the impact of addictive substances, such as cocaine and nicotine, on the behavioral aspects of tested animals. Discussions also focused on central nervous system damage, particularly in the spinal cord, and potential recovery mechanisms with a specific exploration of the role of astrocytes in the recovery process. Stimulating presentations were dedicated to mitochondria and their involvement in the social behavior of animals, as well as their connection to motivation levels in cases of depression.
Participating in the FENS Regional Meeting 2023 provided our colleagues with valuable knowledge, inspiration, and an opportunity to expand their professional horizons. We are excited to see how these new insights and experiences will bear fruit in their future research and practice.
