Dr. Ľubor Košťál at a scientific workshop organized by EUPAHW in Tallinn

The European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare (EUPAHW) is the most ambitious research and innovation initiative funded by the European Commission, aimed at combating infectious animal diseases and promoting animal welfare.

Our colleague RNDr. Ľubor Košťál, CSc., from the Institute of Animal Biochemistry and Genetics of the CBs SAS, attended a scientific workshop organised by EUPAHW on April 20–22, 2026, in Tallinn, Estonia, to mark the launch of the project’s second phase. The workshop was attended by more than 300 participants, while more than 1,500 researchers are currently involved in the EUPAHW project.

The Center for Biosciences SAS is participating in one of the 17 internal projects within the first phase of the project (2024–2026), which focuses on positive welfare (SOA13) and, within the second phase of the project (2026–2028), on two of the 18 internal projects (SOA33 – negative welfare and health, SOA34 – the use of sound and image analysis to monitor welfare).

During the workshop, representatives of the individual internal projects met, discussed their plans, and presented them in the form of posters; two rounds of “speed dating” were also held, with the aim of identifying potential synergies between the projects. Several lectures were also given on various aspects of managing this large-scale project.
