From September 4–6, 2024, the 13th Drobnica Memorial took place, organized by the Centre of Biosciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology of the Slovak University of Technology, under the patronage of the Slovak Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The memorial is dedicated to Professor Ľudovít Drobnica, honoring his contributions to scientific research and the education of young scientists.
The event was held at Chata Trúbarka near Trenčín. In addition to acquiring new knowledge and inspiration for their own research, the memorial serves as a competition for PhD students and young scientists under the age of 35.
As part of the awards, the Ľudovít Drobnica Award was presented to the top three competitors, and the Ernest Šturdík Award was given to one participant in the field of biotechnology. In addition, book prizes were awarded, with one going to our colleague from the Institute of Animal Physiology, Lívia Karahutová, for her presentation titled “Multiresistant – biofilm-forming strains of Staphylococcus isolated from bovine mastitis.” The participants also evaluated each other, leading to the Audience Award being presented.
We warmly congratulate all the winners and look forward to the next meeting in 2026!
