A Memorable Weekend with SAS

1200

The celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak Academy of Sciences culminated on June 23-24, 2023 with the public event “Weekend with SAS.” We are delighted to have been a part of this significant occasion.

At our booth, you played a sperm-themed memory game and learned more about reproductive cells and reproduction. You also participated in an egg sorter activity, where you discovered more about poultry welfare and the use of quail eggs in research. We discussed bird song and compared the brain preparations of a zebra finch and a rat. We explored how neurons work, their formation, and the measurement of electrical currents in the brain, even assembling a model brain together. We demonstrated the digestion process in farm animals using a model, allowing you to peek into the rumen of ruminants. We covered topics from systems to tissues and cells, delved into biomembranes, and took a look inside the cell nucleus, specifically the DNA. Children left with their own handmade lipid and enthusiasm from experiencing pipetting, centrifugation, and chromatographic separation.

We had a diverse range of visitors, from children to adults, and we sincerely appreciate your interest. We thank each and every one of you for your attendance and for your curiosity, as it serves as our driving force.

Thank you once again, and we hope to continue sharing knowledge and inspiring curiosity in the future.
